These rights extend across all areas of state law and include wills, property division, guardianship, health care, statutory compensation schemes, state taxes, fees and licenses, and state superannuation and pension schemes.
Unfortunately there remain many areas of federal law in which there is no recognition for same-sex couples. These include federal public service superannuation schemes, veterans entitlements, Medicare and access to the Family Court. A comprehensive list of areas of federal law in which there is still discrimination can be found at…
A comprehensive list of all Tasmanian laws which give equal entitlements to same and mixed-sex, and caring couples is included below
The only caveat is in the area of parenting.
Only people in registered significant relationships have parenting rights and these rights difference between mixed-sex and same-sex couples.
The following Tasmanian statutes have been amended to give relationship rights to people in significant and caring relationships. This gives these relationships the same or similar legal status traditionally given to marriage.
